Disney lance un nouveau studio d’animation à Vancouver

Walt Disney Animation Studios annonce étoffer ses équipes : un nouveau studio d’animation va s’ouvrir à Vancouver.

Les équipes de Burbank continueront à travailler sur les longs-métrages et miniséries (comme la future Zootopia+), tandis que Vancouver se focalisera sur les séries animées de grande ampleur et autres projets destinés à Disney+.
Le premier projet de l’équipe sera la série dérivée du film Vaiana, prévue pour 2024.

Le studio de Vancouver sera dirigé par Amir Nasrabadi, précédemment passé chez WildBrain Studio, Pixar Canada, Illumination, Paramount Animation. Il avait également été Finance lead au sein des studios Disney.

En pratique, le studio de Vancouver devrait ouvrir en janvier 2022, mais le recrutement a déjà commencé. Le développement et la préproduction des projets restera basée à Burbank.

Il est à noter que Disney avait déjà eu un studio d’animation à Vancouver, à la fin des années 90 : si ce dernier n’avait pas duré, cette nouvelle structure devrait logiquement avoir une plus grande durée de vie, étant donné l’importance que prend Disney+ dans la stratégie du groupe Disney.

Emerging Digital Artists Award

The open call is addressed to audiovisual artists resident in Canada within 5 years of their artistic career.

This is a great chance for emerging digital artists to showcase their artworks, expand their networking and further their experimentation within the digital arts.

The Emerging Digital Artists Award (EDAA) is Canada’s award for critical experimentation in digital media. The award consists of $5,000 for the winner, and $1,000 for four finalists, as well as a group exhibition.

Since 2015, the EDAA has been promoting artists working within virtual space, by seeking submissions that push us in new directions, and challenge us to see the world through a different screen.
