Il y a un moment, j’avais parlé du MIDI sur le Power Mac 6100 dans sa version DOS. Du côté Mac OS (enfin, System…), c’était assez simple. Mais côté DOS, c’est une autre paire de manches.
Pour faire simple, le problème vient de la carte son Apple : le MIDI n’est pas câblé dans la prise joystick de la carte. En fait, c’est même pire : Apple a ajouté du 5 V sur la prise. Dans les faits, ça ne fonctionne pas, il est impossible de sortir du MIDI de la prise. Mais une personne (steven) a décidé d’aller plus loin. Il a trouvé une image haute définition d’une carte son équipée de la même puce que la carte Apple (la Vibra 16, une version qui intègre plusieurs composants de Sound Blaster) pour tracer le chemin entre la broche de la prise et les broches de la puce.

A partir de là, il a pu déterminer que la broche 30 de la puce envoie le signal MIDI Out. Il a donc soudé un fil à partir de cette dernière, qui part vers la bonne broche de la prise joystick, pour ensuite relier un synthétiseur MIDI à la partie DOS du Mac pour jouer à Doom II. Il y a pas mal d’explications et d’autres images sur son site et si un jour je suis motivé, je tenterais avec la mienne pour essayer de jouer avec mon Roland MT-32. Mais je n’ai pas tellement confiance en moi, vu mes talents pour souder…

Une sortie basique : le fil arrive dans une sortie jack, reliée ensuite à la prise joystick.
En tout cas, c’est le genre de trucs que j’aime voir, pour corriger les erreurs d’Apple dans les années 90.
