Israel-based ColorChip introduces a new ultra-compact pico projector module based on its PLC SystemOnGlass platform. ColorChip targets the tethered and standalone AR/VR smartglasses market for this module.

The new pico-projector module integrates ColorChip's ColorMux RGB Beam Combiner with a MEMS scanner. The ColorMux RGB Beam Combiner is based on ColorChip's proprietary and patented optical waveguides embedded in a glass Planar Lightwave Circuit (PLC) and SystemOnGlass (SOG) integration & assembly technology.

Osram announces a new efficient and bright green laser diode for pico projectors

OSRAM announced a new green laser diode for pico projectors. The PLT3 520D (520 nm) achieves an "unprecedented high pulse output for direct green laser diodes" of 140 m (at 300 mA) in pulsed mode (50% duty cycle).

OSRAM says it managed to increase the efficiency of its green laser to a typical value of 8%. The PLT3 520D has a diameter of only 3.8 mm.

Microvision announced its financial results for Q3 2017

Microvision new logoMicrovision announced its financial and operating results for Q3 2017. Revenues were $6.1 million (and up from $4 million in Q3 2016), whih is Microvision's highest ever. Operating loss was $5.2 million (up from $4.1 million in Q3 2016) and the net loss was $5.2 million as well.

Cash used in operatings during the quarter was $5.7 million (up from $3.8 million in Q3 2016). As of September 30, 2017 backlog was $15.8 million and cash and cash equivalents were $25.3 million. Given time to market adjustment of the interactive display engine, Microvision anticipates to be at the lower end of its revenue guidance of $30 million to $60 million by January 2019.
