La VR française explose à l’export, selon un rapport UniFrance

UniFrance (en charge de la promotion du cinéma français dans le monde) a dévoilé la seconde édition de son étude sur la VR française à l’international. L’année 2019 n’étant pas encore terminée, c’est un bilan de l’année 2018 qui nous est ici proposé.

Les premiers éléments montrent un marché en plein essor : plus de 200 ventes de projets VR français contre une centaine pour 2017, avec un chiffre d’affaires à l’exportation de 216 395€, soit cinq fois le montant de l’année précédente.

En termes de contenus, le marché ne semble pas encore fixé : alors que la fiction était en tête des ventes en 2017, le documentaire représentait pas moins de 60% des recettes pour 2018. La fiction se retrouve à la seconde place (23,3%) suivie par l’animation (7,8%) qui reste donc encore très minoritaire.

Côté projets, The Enemy est le projet au plus gros chiffre d’affaires. Cette expérience VR propose de s’immerger dans un triple face-à-face avec des combattants issus de trois zones de conflits : chez les Maras du Salvador, en République Démocratique du Congo, et en Israël et Palestine. L’idée étant de comprendre leurs perspectives et motivations, mais aussi leur humanité.

En nombre de ventes, en revanche, c’est le projet I Saw The Future qui arrive en tête, avec un concept qui fait écho aux visions futuristes d’ Arthur C. Clarke.

UniFrance souligne que le mode d’exploitation impacte fortement les recettes, mais aussi que les festivals internationaux représentent la moitié des 88 acheteurs identifiés, loin devant les distributeurs (15 acheteurs).
Plus globalement, avance UniFrance, la phase d’évangélisation reste bien présente malgré la structuration progressive du marché. Institutions et ambassades restent ainsi des acteurs de poids dans les recettes.
Enfin, 40% environ du chiffre d’affaires et plus du quart des ventes des films VR français se font en Europe occidentale, qui est donc un marché de choix. L’Asie (25,3% du CA) se situe juste derrière, la Corée du Sud étant « le premier territoire pour la réalité virtuelle hexagonale à l’export », précise UniFrance.
