Nostalgie : comme la prélogie Star Wars, Blade Runner a eu droit à ses ajouts

Si son cas est moins polémique que celui de la prélogie Star Wars, le film Blade Runner a lui aussi subi quelques retouches par rapport à sa version d’origine. Outre de multiples déclinaisons du long-métrage (avec ou sans voix-off, avec ou sans licorne et même avec ou sans violence), le Final Cut sorti en 2007 a fait l’objet de changements délibérés allant au-delà de la simple restauration.
Au menu, entre autres : une retouche de la bouche d’Harrison Ford afin que les mouvements des lèvres collent avec l’enregistrement audio fait ensuite en studio, mais aussi le remplacement de la tête d’une cascadeuse.

Thomas Martin, qui avait pu se rendre à la View Conference 2019 en partenariat avec 3DVF, en avait ramené une interview de Trent Claus du studio Lola VFX, qui a travaillé sur la restauration 4K du film : il nous présente aujourd’hui une vidéo dédiée sur le sujet.

Bien évidemment, ces changements pourraient soulever des critiques chez les fans, sur le modèle des modifications imposées par George Lucas sur Star Wars. Il n’en est rien, sans doute pour deux raisons : tout d’abord, la version d’origine (version cinéma US de 1982) est généralement considérée comme inférieure à la Final Cut, avec sa voix off et sa fin. Ensuite, et surtout, contrairement au cas Star Wars, les rééditions vidéo successives de Blade Runner n’ont jamais été avares de bonus, et la norme des éditions collector a toujours été de proposer de multiples versions du film. L’édition 35ème anniversaire contient ainsi les versions cinéma US et internationale, la Director’s Cut, une version de travail et enfin la Final Cut.
De quoi contenter tous les fans, mais aussi d’éviter de faire disparaître les anciennes versions. Un choix que l’on souhaiterait voir plus souvent.
