Mira! Festival

Par Nina Verhagen

BARCELONA, November 05 – 09 2019

MIRA wants to bring the audience closer to several realms of artistic creativity through an event with two main objectives: to function as a platform for new creators as well as a showcase for world-renowned artists and to create unique immersive experiences through digital and technological innovation and the interlacing of live music and visuals.

MIRA is a digital arts festival based on three interconnected areas: exhibition, dissemination and education, and is held annually in Barcelona (since 2011) and Berlin (since 2016).

Focused on the intersection between arts and digital culture, the festival features a program comprised of audiovisual shows in both traditional and fulldome formats, digital art installations, screenings, conferences, and workshops.

MIRA promotes artistic collaborations and boosts the creation of new projects, supporting the relationships between collectives, associations and artists from the fields of digital arts and technology. The associative and non-profit nature of the organization, aided by the participation of volunteers, guarantees that the results are reinvested in promoting digital culture in a sustainable way.

Four festival days in which machines, arts, and technology melt together in order to spread new messages and new perspectives, proposing a new imaginary, breaking down the borders between the medium and the content, manipulating images and using different approaches to make the final content that is clearly relied on the artists’ improvisation and ability.

Eight countries involved, live cinema performances, screenings and workshops for a festival that reflects the spirit of our era in which technology has totally invaded every aspect of our lives: “Live Cinema Festival”, the international event focused on the most innovative performances of live audiovisual shows.

To enrich the program of the event, since September 19 a four days lasting workshop – for a total of 8 hours – will start. It will be focused on this new technique in the artistic-performative context and it will be held by Emanuele Tarducci, Architect and Interaction Designer who lives and works in Rome, teacher at RUFA Design University and Visual Artist. The workshop aims to give the technical and technological tools to make an audiovisual Live Cinema performance.

In April the eight AAVE (Alternative AudioVisual Event) brings in live cinema performances, experimental films, video art, documentaries and installations for your eyes, ears and other senses. It shines on the screens, stages and exhibition venues in Helsinki.

The theme of the year 2018 is hauntology, haunting through media, memory, and matter.

They introduce the theme via live cinema performances, screenings, exhibitions, and a seminar. In their main screening series, they will show the short works by the legendary pioneer of Japanese experimental documentary film, video art and avant-garde film Matsumoto Toshio and our qualified live cinema guest artists performances and surprising moving image works will light up the program with tempting, otherworldly shine.
