Screen /Picture Splitting Problem

The problem i'm having on the my output screen, when I play fast moving or high intesity strobe clips i'm getting a horizontal line splitting the screen at random places, is this because of the LCD tv's or Projector i'm using at the time or is there something i can do to stop the picture from looking messed up from my laptop?

Any advice would be great thanks :)

...... but I have managed a 4 layer, blend mode style software mixer of my own. (No coding knowledge, just good old vvvv and a Nvidea 6200 gfx card)

Features

LAYERS
1) 3d Text layer

Ive been lost in blendmodes for 5 days now, and my eyes are bleeding.....

Since this little app is quite specific in its hardware requirements and paths etc I am not ready to post it on vvvv.org, but will when I have tidyed it up some. (It really needs a front end and some preview windows for some mad LFO action)

Playing it, because it does play like an instrument, is awesome! the combination of the beat analysis with a tapped Bmp sync is very exiting.
However I can get into trouble with it sometimes and stare at a blank/fucked up screen thinking which effect caused that???

.......right back too it!

Modul8 Presentation and workshop at LPM Rome

We'll be doing a modul8 presentation and workshop at the massive LPM/Avit in Rome. May 28 through the end of the month. Ilan Katin will drive the thing. Also there were be licenses of modul8 provided for the festival that the festival people will be offering as prizes or raffles. Stickers and posters will be on hand as well. Put them on everything including your dog or cat.

Can't wait!!!

I am going try and crash demo modul8 at the μ:avit scene in Berlin. If I am in the mood I might do a raffle of one license. Definitely will have demo discs and stickers.

Come if you can. If you can't then cancel whatever you were thinking of doing and come anyway. If you are far away somewhere rob our grandmas piggy bank and purchase a ticket. Berlin is really beautiful this time of year and there are lots of parks you can sleep in. Totally worth it.

its drag and drop based and got a pretty good editor,
can be linked to your own domain and produce all kind of enhanced web content.

after the design stage you get a button that produce the code you can insert where ever you want.

obviously you can upload your own content or use the product galleries.
its free now, and just public released these days.

i hope you will enjoy using it.
would love to read what you thought
and / or to see links if you have tried using it.

Ableton, 2 Computers and a V8

Hi,

I'm trying to hook all my devices up using the midi clock, tempo from Ableton.

I've pretty much got it all working how I want it, I can tap/use a fader on my fader fox to control the bpm on two copies of resolume and the V8 simultaneously.

The only problem is the bpm fluctuates on all the devices, the two laptops with resolume are +/- 5bpm all the time fluctuating up and down. The Edirol V8 shows quite large jumps on it's display of more than 20bpm constantly, when you hook the fade transitions up to it you can visibly see the skips/changes in bpm at 1/2 1/4 speed transitions.
I don't know a whole lot about midi clock but is this to be expected? Is the timecode like a constant stream of data, so I should expect latency and changes in speed?
I've tried this with 3 different midi devices and they all seem to do it.
If only I could control the tap button on the V8 by midi I could work around it.
Would a red sound device work? I just want a way to tap in a beat for all 3 devices at once. :violin:

recording video scratches

hi all!

I did a visuals show at a club using resolume - and mixed some video footage I shot (currently they are avi) with some flash animations and resolume's filters.

the results were great, and I scratched the video (a girl dancing) to the beats of the music (minimal techno).

anyways - I want to record this so I can upload on youtube. I tried using resolume's recorder - but as anyone who knows resolume will know that there are no settings for video quality and the output is a very low quality horrible video clip.

does anyone know which program will allow you to record scratches?

the ideal would be a program where I could play back an audio track (or even have the track running on another program) and which will allow me to add 2-3 layers of video, add filters, and record my scratches - all into a final output video file.

antivirus software performance

looking for some good antivirus software for a macbook pro and a macbook ..

very keen t keep the machines running fast and clean.. that means keeping viruses out, but also maintaining fast system performance.

i watched someone install some free antivirus software and their computer run 33% speed after that.. until they uninstalled the anti-virus software.

so, am looking for the best, quickest, strongest anti virus software please.

any info or help greatly appreciated :)

whilst i was on the train home from a gig last night, i thought one of these could be a handy addition to my kit both for playback of media and also for being able to record bits of my set's. the kind of thing im thinking of is one of those things like ipods, that play video and record, but not specifially an apple one.

does anybody have any reccomendations / warnings about these kind of units?

Youtube user heywhatnoo has posted a 7 minute step by step tutorial video to youtube on using our freeware i3L Midi Bridge application together with your iphone for ableton live. The steps detailed in the tutorial are relevant for any audio or video app that you want to control with your iphone.

In other news, Peter Kirn has written posts for both createdigitalmotion and createdigitalmusic detailing all of the great apps out there for making music or controlling visuals with your iphone. Hop on over and check them out!

Hi everybody,

Yes, this is another one of these "play for free" gigs, if you've had enough of these, please don't read on.

Carrying on from last year's successful gig in the "Trash City" field, Bassline Circus will host the main music venue at Glasto's newest 24H field: "Shangri-la".
Check their website for details of programmed acts, the music policy will be:
roots-breaks-electro-ska-drumnbass-hiphop-bashment-dub-jungle-reggae-dubstep-house-ambient
there will also definitely be some old skool rave and circus acts between the band (no Advertigo show this year but a "cabarave" instead)

for those who aren't familiar with Bassline's and Pointless' work, here's a report from last summer's tour. Basically, an interest in the free party scene will help you get along with all those involved. the Pointless crew will be designing the screens, do the setup, and provide the content for most of the festival.

What's on offer:
2 tickets for the festival including camping in the performers' area (showers, access to backstage) with the Bassline crew. this could be for 2 VJs working together or 1 experienced VJ+guest.

What work you'll need to do:
2 short-ish sets (4 hours) or 1 mammoth set (8 hours) over the course of the weekend. basically, we need you to help the Pointless Crew take a night off ;) , oh and if you were ever interested in how to put up/take down a Circus Big Top, you're welcome to help out.

What you'll need to provide:
your own kit with composite out, your own transport and accomodation (small truck or trailer can be parked at the bassline camp, but you'll need to arrive before the festival start to ensure this), food and festival essentials (including healthy brains)...general niceness.

The setup will look something like this:

except that the big stage screen will be replaced by a smaller, removable screen (we are pushing the stage back to increase capacity), and there will probably be more cubes.

Type of visuals we are looking for:
-high quality original content and/or samplers of striking motion graphics.
-High contrast and black background loops(those who have experience of creating content for mesh screens will know why)
-themed around: Twisted, tekno, abstract, geometric, duotone, minimal, political, rhythmical... also check the lineup for stylistic clues (no trippy, trance style multicolour content please).
-good live skills
-enough content for a 8hour show.
-compact setup preferable (Front of House has limited space)

Hi There.

Im not a C4D n00b but when i apply extrude nurbs, to text or to exported outlines (Text) from Illustrator. and i apply a MAP to it.
It doesend render the map on the front side of the letters.

See here my image:

Does anybody know how to make it, that the frontside of the letters gets my mapping.?

A night of open air guerilla projections, electronic music, barbecue and hemp beer. The party was very successful with around 150 dancing people despite the freezing temperatures at the Elsenbrücke, Osthafen. Thanks to everyone who celebrated with us!

would like to place a 3d telephone in a studio scene.

situation:

1920 by 1080 footage of a VJ-DJ mixing studio.

the camera angle is from the left, looking toward the vj's left shoulder.

the VJ reaches out to pick up the phone

so.. the real-world camera move sweeps around the VJ and moves up 20 cm, around in a 150 degree arc.. this footage achieved with the use of a Steadytracker, so hopefully the movement is fluid. then, the camera angle remains held at the position it arrives at after the arc-move.

would like to add a Camera layer in after effects to somehow emulate that realworld camera move, so that the 3d Telephone model can appear to be a real 3d object, ...

my question is, how does after effects detect the camera move and apply it to a 3D Camera layer?

Better Quality - Rip or Capture?

I have a few projects that i need to capture from dvd since i lost the masters from the great HD crash of 2007. Quick question - what do you think would be better quality

A) ripping dvd using handbrake or other software
b) Playing dvd back and capturing using Canopus Analog to digital converter? (s-vhs cable)

I would say the second option - I would like to hear opinions before i rip up the attic looking for the a/d converter.

Ich kriege gerne Post, also ich meine so analogen Kram, der nach Papier riecht und so gegen Mittag im Hausflur auf einen wartet. Gestern zum Beispiel wurde mir eine Einladung zugestellt, die zwar eigentlich nicht für mich ist, aber doch irgendwie schön persönlich.
Um mal zum Punkt zukommen, der Jörg Oswald, ist ein Audiovisualist hier in Berlin und der wird in der Galerie Dieter Reitz vom 16.5 bis zum 28.6 ausgestellt, aus diesem Anlass hat er dem Visualberlin einen Flyer zukommen lassen mit einer handschriftlichen Notiz doch ein Treffen in seiner Ausstellung zu machen.
Nach einem kurzen Blick ins Netz fühlt sich das was er macht ganz interessant an. Zum Beispiel findet man auf seiner Webseite ein Projekt was sich Soloton nennt, ein Webplayer der die Latenz in der Übertragung von mehreren Quicktimes nutzt um etwas zu generieren was er WebVideoMusik nennt. Ein sehr einfaches Prinzip, das aber meiner Meinung nach eine große Intensität generiert.
Mich hat es neugierig gemacht und ich werde mal versuchen dahin zu gehen.

Processing, Ported to JavaScript

Processing derives its power from its use from Java, and using Java applets, you can run Processing sketches in a browser. (You can even use 3D — OpenGL included, with some trickery.) But what if you could use Processing syntax with JavaScript — even just for the heck of it?

John Resig has done just that, porting Processing’s syntax and basic functionality to JavaScript, using the browser support for the Canvas element:

Incredibly, the whole project fits in a svelte 5000 lines — a 10kb compressed download. Now that it’s done, is there any advantage? Well, I can see using it for simple, lightweight JavaScript visualizations in the context of a Web design in which an embedded Java applet didn’t make sense. You will want to keep your expectations realistic: you lose out on some of the performance and functionality advantages provided by Java, and John has the additional warnings:

NOTE: I highly recommend that you use the latest Firefox 3 beta to view the demos. Most will work in the latest WebKit Nightly and a majority will work in Opera 9.5, but all will work in Firefox 3.
Note again: A lot of these demos will peg your CPU. As I mentioned above, I’m trying to squeeze the most out of the browser, as possible - be ready for it!

That said, I’m running Firefox 2 on a modest CPU and most of the demos are actually just fine. Anyone out there who, for some reason, has been waiting for this, I’ll be curious to hear more about how you think it might be used. But for the rest of us, it proves that some of the power of Processing is in the underlying concept and syntax, not just the literal implementation — and that’s a cool thing. As for those crazy hackers out there, well, keep on hacking!

2/ recently purchased the name iDownloads.tv and hope to make an iTouch/iPhone content site, so am looking for what is out there already.
