Gestalten has published an interview with Ryoji Ikeda and Carsten Nicolai (cyclo) about their book cyclo. id. They talk about lissajous meters, drawing audio, visualizing sound, waveforms, etc.
The lissajous meter became involved in the original concept in the mastering process. We had the mastering session of the album with Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering Studio, Berlin and when we saw the incredible figures on his meter during mastering we both were absolutely fascinated and realized that this was a great way of visualizing our performances. From that point on, visualization became an essential part in the process. And finally it even became the main topic we were interested in. Carsten NicolaiComplete interview
I made this funny MIDI and imported it into Synthesia. I named this song FUCK OFF!!!Chris Kogos
Océanes is part of a continuing series of videomusic works exploring the aesthetic potential of particle based computer generated imagery. Analogous to granular sound processing, particle synthesis allows for the creation and control of complex materials using an large number of very small components. Sound and image coordination does not explicitely use synchresis as a discursive device but aims for an elevated relation based on metaphor and emotional detachment, as if contemplating a field of images from a distant perspective.Jean Piché
I’ve always been obsessed with the relationships between sound and image, and databending is one of the easiest methods to transform a sound track into a still image. I like this approach because it’s an automatic transformation, not a prepared visualization. You don’t decide the outcome, it’s just the result of a mechanical process that you can’t control. Sometimes the resulting images are not very interesting, but sometimes are really mesmerizing.
FLW Light Study 2 is video footage of a typographic light sculpture combined with basic color and position effects. It's set to percussion and drone sounds to induce a hypnogogic state.Rob Seward
Drum and Space is a five song/video cycle chronicling the voyage of a future space traveller as she looks to trade the safety of her home world for the furthest regions of the universe. She begins as a optimistic explorer heading out on her own path of discovery, but her travels do not continue unaccompanied for long and her goals become more ambitious.Video concept and production by Mary Ann Benedetto/outpt.
Video-Gang Collective is seeking electronic art work for the pilot screening of a series of Screenings that explore the relationship between the moving image and sound. Works that engage and push the boundaries of sensory perceptions are sought. The series of screens begins with SoundVision I which be held at The Shop in Richmond, Va. Works are due by March 10th, 2012 to receive full consideration. All work will be screened to the public on the evening of Monday, April 2, 2012.
The installation Evolving Spark Network consists of a grid of electric spark bridges that traverses the whole exhibition space. Together the bridges form a plane with a height of about 3 meters above the floor. The sparks are a metaphor for the electrical impulses by which our nerves communicate information. Just like neurons that form networks in our body, the spark bridges also form an interconnected network. There is no hierarchical process that determines the patterns of the cells but they are the result from relationships between the individual cells of the network.Edwin van der Heide
Realtime sound reactive 4d quaternion Julia fractal raytracing in GLSL. This is a capture of Julia dancing to Gluetooth by Hudson Mohawke, no post processing whatsoever (although already tested this via Syphon in VDMX effect chains, works like a charm).Kroko
