I never publish here my own videos because for me this is more an archive of things that I like or find interesting than a blog. Anyway, in case anyone is interested, I think that today I'm gonna say something about my own work.

These two examples are the only two videos that I've made synchronizing Ableton and VDMX through midi. The original image file used in both cases is a Quartz Composer basic patch. The sound is also mine and was made from scratch in Ableton. I'm not a musician so the sound is not very sophisticated...

Impaired was made four years ago, and Dissolving last year. Both were made in just one afternoon, so I'm sure anyone familiar with computers, video and sound can make something similar. VDMX demo can be downloaded for free from Vidvox, Quartz Composer is included in Xcode, and Ableton Live is very popular so no need for explanations.

Most of my videos are at Vimeo. Some of them are made in Modul8, others in VDMX, but usually I work frame by frame (not audio analysis) with Photoshop and Final Cut.

Brought to the market in 2001 as a pioneer technique, the Acoustic Camera has become over the years a metaphor for beamforming systems in general. Translating Audio into Images with After Effects [Berlin]

A three day workshop explaining how to synchronise the movement and parameters of graphics with audio. Graphics could be any kind, from computer generated ones till handmade scanned files passed through photoshop. Audio and images will combine into after effects get manipulated,synchronised and export as audio driven quicktime movies. A usage of expressions (code) will take place too, for more advanced and specific synchronisation. Participants are encouraged to develop projects which will be presented at the end of the workshop.

Textile researcher Berit Greinke and composer for electroacoustic music Alessandro Altavilla will give a collaborative 3-day workshop based on the project CHROME that investigates visual and audio pattern creation through colour chromatography.

The two artists will give an overview of their work and research involving textiles and digital sound, conduct a 3-day workshop to explore techniques and materials to create chromatic prints and sounds, and perform a live set involving textile and digital interfaces.

Berit Greinke is a researcher in textile design and digital sound. She has studied at Art School Berlin, and graduated from Central St Martin’s College of Art & Design, gaining an MA in Design for Textile Futures in 2009. From October 2010 she has undertaken an EPSRC funded PhD in Media and Arts Technology at Queen Mary University of London. Her practice-based research focus is on cross-modal experience, developing interactive installations of textiles and digital sound. Her work has been exhibited internationally and has won multiple awards, such as the Surface Bursary by the London Printworks Trust funded by the Leverhulme Trust, NOBELini Award funded by the Medical Research Council and a DAAD annual scholarship.

Alessandro Altavilla is a sound artist, sound designer for cinema and an electroacoustic music composer. His research focuses on augmented urban experience through sound and mobile technology. He gained an M.Res. in Digital Media, Culture Lab under the supervision of Atau Tanaka, after obtaining a B.Mus. in electroacoustic music composition in Italy.

The workshop is held by KHIB in collaboration with BEK.

An on-going project and collaboration between Memo Akten and Mira Calix. “Poéme Rhythmique (for 100 Children)” is a sound and light composition exploring the nature of complex patterns created from the interaction of multilayered rhythms, and questioning our notion of conventional musical instruments. It is inspired by György Ligetiʼs “Poéme Symphonique for 100 metronomes” and Edgar Varèseʼs “Poéme Electronique”.
